Lund: The Swedish Human Rights Film Festival
The festival is a unique blend of new human rights films combined with fresh analysis from researchers and experts so festival goers can go deeper and get new insights on the major human rights issues of our time.
The initiative comes from the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
The Institute runs the festival in cooperation with Kino/Folkets Bio in Lund. The Association of Foreign Affairs in Lund is a cooperation partners.
The festival is supported by Lund municipality, Folkuniversitetet in Lund and Film in Skåne.
Friday, March 16
16.00: This Is Our Land (Drama, 117 min) - Director: Lucas Belvaux - Q&A with Catarina Kinnvall, Professor of Politicial Science, Lund University
19.30: The Venerable W (Documentary 107 minutes) - English subtitles - Director: Barber Schroeder - Q&A with Chris Sidoti, who is an Expert Member of the UN Independent International Fact Finding Mission on Myanmar. - Moderator: Morten Kjaerum, director of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute
Saturday, March 17
14.00: A Season in France (Drama, 100min) - English subtitles - Director: Mahamat-Saleh Haroun Q&A with Michael McEachrane, who is a s a Visiting Researcher at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Rahel Weldeab Sebhatu, whose research interests include postcolonial/decolonial theory, international relations, postcolonial feminism, globalization, migration, peace and security, as well as diaspora and youth studies.
18.45: Anita (Documentary, 95 min) - Director: Freida Lee Mock Q&A with Marta Kolankiewicz, a researcher and a lecturer at the Department of Gender Studies at Lund University. Her main areas of interest include social justice and law, sociology of race and racism, feminist theories and postcolonial theories.
Moderator: Anna Bruce, Researcher at the Raoul Wallenberg Institute. Her main area of research is equality and non-discrimination in international human rights law, including questions of gender and violence.
Sunday, March 18
13.00: A Letter to the President (Drama, 93 min) - English subtitles - Director: Roya Sadat
Q&A with Fereshta Begum, born in Afghan, based in Sweden, Fereshta works with an organisation called Women Building Bridges, and Ali Farhad Salehi, born in Afghanistan, based in Sweden. Ali worked with UN and USAID human rights projects in Afghanistan for about 8 years. Today he is working for an organisation called Listeners Without Borders in Sweden.
Moderator: Julia Bergström is the national representative of the Association of Foreign Affairs and a master’s student at Lund University
15.30: Golden Dawn Girls(Documentary, 93 min) - Director: Håvard Bustnes
Q&A with Tina Askanius, Senior Lecturer, Media and Communications Studies, Malmö University, who studies extreme-right activism and propaganda.
18.00: Nimble Fingers (Documentary, 52min) - English subtitles - Director: Parsifal Reparato - Q&A with director Parsifal Reparato, an Italian filmmaker, anthropologist and journalist who is actively involved in workers’ rights, migration and medical anthropology. - Moderator: Marina Svensson, Director of the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies at Lund University
