Visit Asylum Forum 2015, support and participate at the most important political forum at Stockholm Pride!

This year during Stockholm Pride, RFSL will open Recycle the Rainbow - RFSL Second Hand to support RFSL Newcomers & raise funds for this national project supporting LGBTQI asylum seekers.

Asylum Forum highlights migration politics and practice. Asylum activists meet politicians and representatives from government agencies. The program is packed with panel debates and entertainment focused on asylum rights and political demands. Asylum Forum 2015 is an excellent opportunity to exchange views, opinions and information about the challenges that LGBTQ asylum seekers face. It is also a possibility for RFSL Newcomers to publicly present the issues that this group is facing, and demand reaction from the responsible state bodies to resolve the challenges that are within their competence. After the first day of Asylum Forum 2012 the LGBTQ magazin QX.se wrote: “if anyone is missing the core foundation of Pride, the political origin, importance of fighting for equal rights beyond parties and superficiality, than I suggest that you visit Asylum Forum seminars…”

TUESDAY 12:00 - 12:30 Opening ceremony

TUESDAY 12:30 - 13:30 Transgender rights in asylum process

Should transgender asylum seekers be able to begin or continue transgender health care in Sweden before a decision on the asylum has been made? Should such care be considered "care that can not wait”? (vård som inte kan anstå?”) This conversation raises the issue of transgender rights with focus on asylum rights and demands.

The fabulous sex educators from RFSL are visiting with their legendary Dirty Bingo. You’ll have the opportunity to win fantastic prizes and get hot advice. This special edition of Dirty Bingo will also highlight sexual health rights for LGBTQ asylum seekers and undocumented persons.

TUESDAY 15:00 - 16:00 LMA: Personal security and rights

The LMA card is distributed to asylum seekers by the Migration Board, however, the card symbolizes all sorts of challenges and problems that prevent asylum seekers in to get social and legal rights. Participants in the discussion will investigate the issues, the roots of the problem and the political demands needed to secure rights and political action.

Fleeing homes because of sexual orientation or gender identity, and to arrive in a new home: A conversation about how it feels to navigate through everyday life in Sweden for LGBTQ asylum seekers and newly arrived to Sweden. Here we explore the concept of “home”, nation, safer spaces, and what LGBTQ persons in asylum go through on their journey.

TUESDAY 17:00-18:00 LGBTQ housing for asylum seekers

A discussion about the housing situation for LGBTQ asylum seekers, new housing ideas and strategies for LGBTQ persons in Sweden. Many LGBTQ asylum seekers are meet with discrimination, threats and abuse in current asylum housing but what are the actions? How do we create a political debate about safer housing, and what possibilities are available now?

Open legal aid for LGBTQ asylum seekers

Legal aid is open for drop-in

Throughout Asylum Forum we are pleased to open legal aid for LGBTQ persons that have or will have asylum processes in Sweden. The purpose of the legal aid sessions is to support LGBTQ asylum seekers in their asylum cases or give advice on how to move forward in order to seek asylum in Sweden. Lead by lawyers that have broad experience in asylum and LGBTQ rights.

WEDNESDAY 12:00 - 13:15 The Dublin Regulation in LGBTQ cases

In this session we introduce the Dublin regulations that affects LGBTQ asylum seekers who have been registered in another EU country before applying for asylum in Sweden. The objective of this event is to raise awareness about the legal obstacle while implementing the Dublin Regulation by the Migration Board and to put political actions into play.

WEDNESDAY 13:15 -14:00 LGBTQ women in asylum

This discussion targets the challenges and specific issues that relate to LGBTQ women’s issues both in and outside the asylum process. Issues that women in asylum and undocumented women face are often suppressed and silenced in society. Police reports are ignored and legal, health and social rights are rarely fulfilled.

In this discussion LGBTQ women in asylum and different organizations meet to discuss issues of discrimination, stereotypes, rights and actions.

What political goals and strategies are needed to ensure humane and fair asylum politics. This discussion is solution focused and aims at discussing do-able ideas and demands. Wednesday 15:30 -16:15 After the asylum process

A seminar about LGBTQ experiences of meeting with Swedish authorities, employment services and more. LGBTQ people that are granted asylum talk about experiences after the asylum process, about discrimination as well as future goals. A conversations about the problems that exist and what difficulties that need to be addressed.

Wednesday 16:15- 17:00 The Darkside of LGBTQ

A conversation about the difficult sides of being LGBTQ in Sweden especially when you are an asylum seeker. For the final hour of Asylum Forum 2015 the goal is to confront the issues of stigma and stereotypes that are constructed in relations to the words and meanings of “asylum” and “asylum seeker” both within and outside the LGBTQ communities.
