One year on, what are the impacts of the decriminalization of article 377 in India and the broader region? Swedish Institute in collaboration with South Asian Pride and Sweden India Association invites you to an evening on the LGBTQ+ movement in South Asia.

Queer identities have been criminalized in South Asian countries for almost 150 years. A remnant of the British Colonial Law, article 377 in the Indian Penal Code made non-normative sexual practices illegal. In 2018 Indian Supreme Court asked the government to repeal this act, allowing Queer people in India the freedom to love.

Join us for an evening of discussions about the history, context and experiences of Queer lives in South Asia. Understand the social movement and legal battle that led to this decriminalization. Discuss the impact of this decision in India and around the world with a group of panellists from the region.

Warm welcome!
