Lois Weaver is a performance artist, director and professor in Contemporary Performance at Queen Mary University in London. Weaver has extensive experience in lesbian and feminist performance practices and has been performing internationally with her company, Split Britches, since the 1980’s. Weaver comes to Stockholm to share her experience and ask questions around what it means to be queer and to be femme, through her model for public discussion, the Long Table. The Long Table is a dinner party structured by etiquette, where conversation is the only course. The project combines theatricality and models for public engagement and discussion. The often-feminized domestic realm of the dinner party becomes a stage for public thought, and you are invited!

After the Long Table there will be a panel discussion led by Aleksa Lundberg, exploring femmeness in a queer perspective with Lois Weaver, Ulrika Dahl, and other academics and performance artists.

Ulrika Dahl is professor of gender studies at Uppsala University. She has done research on (queer) femininities and femmes since the early 2000s. Among her many writings on the subject(s) are Femmes of Power: Exploding Queer Femininities (with Del LaGrace Volcano, 2008) where Lois Weaver is among those featured and the critically acclaimed Skamgrepp:Femme-inistiska Essäer (2014), along with articles in journals such as Feminist Theory, Nora, New Formations, Gender, Place and Culture, lambda nordica, Tidskrift för Genusvetenskap and most recently a forthcoming special issue of European Journal of Women’s Studies (with Jenny Sundén).

About the organizers: Linn Henriksson Strååt is a freelance set- and costume designer working with process-oriented performance art from a queer point of view.
