The Sounds of Afrofuturism


Elena Wolay presents Afrofuturism in words and sounds Elena Wolay is a journalist, DJ, curator, record collector and founder of Jazz Är Farligt (Jazz Is Dangerous), a community for experimental music. Wolay will introduce the music genre of Afrofuturism by giving a broad definition and playing sound illustrations from the 1950s up to today.

Erik Steinskog presents ”Afrofuturism and Black Sound Studies: Culture, Technology, and Things to Come” Erik Steinskog is a musicologist from Copenhagen university. Steinskog will focus upon how Afrofuturistic music can be used in a science fiction like manner, and how music can establish understandings of the future, exemplified with sonic as well as world-building features used from Sun Ra to Shabazz Palaces.
