INUIT at Stockholm Fringe Festival

In 1951, 22 children were forcibly relocated from Greenland to Denmark, as a part of an experiment. The experiment was the danish government's colonial attempt at a 'danification' of the greenlandic people. Danish customs and culture were to be implemented in the children, turning them into model citizens, who, when returned to their native country, could pass on this new knowledge and through this shape the Greenlandic mentality in the image of the Danish. However, the experiment failed tremendously. Instead of becoming new Danes, the children, upon their return, were culturally and emotionally estranged from their families and heritage.

INUIT takes inspiration from this historic event. The piece seeks to explore how a disrupted cultural upbringing impacts and forms an identity. Through a visually, physically and audibly layered expression, that borders the psychotic, INUIT tells the story of an identity in crisis.

INUIT is fonded by OFF Track 2017, Aarhus Kulturudviklingspulje and DATS.

OBS! The performance is in Danish.
