DOCH Open lectures: Mette Ingvartsen

//The Red Pieces – Lecture by Mette Ingvartsen//

In this talk Mette Ingvartsen will speak about her ongoing performance series The Red Pieces. Starting from her current interest in pornography and the decline of privacy she will speculate about the relationships between sexuality, pleasure, politics of performance and economy. The lecture reflects upon how borders between private and public space are dissolving and how this process is fueled by an increasing demand for self-performance and self-exposure within media and communication driven economies.

Mette Ingvartsen is a Danish choreographer and dancer. She lives and works in Brussels where she did her dance studies at the performing arts school P.A.R.T.S. She holds a PhD in artistic research on choreography from Stockholm University of the Arts / Lund University. Her practice involves writing, making, researching, lecturing, teaching, performing and documenting work. In her recent performances she has elaborated notions of extended choreography, reaching beyond the movement of the human body by also including elusive flows of fog, bubbles, color, light, sound, objects and other non-human performers. Notions of kinesthesia, perception, affect and sensation have been crucial to most of her work, currently in direct connection to societal questions regarding sexuality and its relation to the public sphere.
